Love it! Great game. It’s a very nice gateway title that lets newcomers like me dip their toes into the sprawling (and growing!) Lorcana universe without feeling overwhelmed. At a very affordable price you receive two pre‑built player decks, each containing 60 illustrated cards of Disney IPs, plus a villain deck of 50 cards that serves as the ever‑present antagonist, Ursula in this case. In addition, the box includes several scenario booklets that guide you through a range of challenges—from beginner‑friendly introductions to tough, strategic encounters that will test even seasoned players – not me, no siree! I suck and have yet to win, even on Easy 😢.

You can play it solo, using the villain deck and the scenario cards. Or, if you prefer a cooperative experience, the game supports up to four players working together; each additional player needs to bring their own deck, and the synergy between the two starter decks and the villain creates a dynamic battlefield that scales with the group’s size. Want to pit the two included decks against Ursula herself? The villain deck is designed for that exact match, offering a satisfying mix of surprise twists and powerful boss mechanics. Or, if competitive play is more your style, you can pit the two starter decks against each other in a classic player‑vs‑player duel, testing your tactical instincts and deck‑building choices.

The possibilities are practically limitless: you can mix and match the scenario cards to design custom campaigns, swap cards between decks to experiment with new strategies, or even add your custom decks to extend the game’s lifespan. Everything except the damn box is of very high-quality, and the counters are flimsy and they suck, and the mat is a damn paper-thin paper that doesn’t deserve the right to be called a mat; anyway, you’ll hate yourself because you’ll need to throw the damn box in the trash… The rest of the components are high‑quality, the artwork is nice and captures the spirit of Lorcana. The rulebook kind of sucks too, doesn’t mention a couple things that have been repeatedly asked in forums – like Ursula’s starting hand (it is zero)–, so, the rulebook also sucks. Anyway, forget about all of these factors and play it, it is a nice experience both accessible for beginners and deep enough for veterans who enjoy exploring every tactical nuance, like the damn group that I’ve been playing against at my FLGS (local game store, the F is for friendly) and repeatedly losing.

Recommend or not? Yes, Highly recommended. It reminds me a lot of Marvel Champions, controlling several characters and trying to maximize your play area with characters and items. What if you don’t care about the IP? Same thing. I’m not too much into the Disney IPs, and as a whole, the game is a nice experience that feels like a boardgame.

tl,dr: Whether you’re looking for a quick solo game, a cooperative quest with friends, or a competitive duel, Ilumineer’s Deep Trouble delivers endless fun while serving as a perfect entry point into the rich world of Lorcana.

They didn’t pay me a dime for this, pay me Disney, Ravensburger! I accept the Bitcoins and NFTs and all that
